For example, the structure will be affected structurally. Put simply, it may be stable or unstable depending on the construction materials that are used to make it. Here is a look at some of the most amazing attributes of construction materials that are hard to find today. If you can come across materials for construction that have these attributes, you will certainly achieve your desired construction project results. Water Repellent  This attribute is mainly important if you are dealing with the surroundings. It is an important attribute for exterior walls as well. More and More People are Looking for Sustainability

Sustainable Products Today more and more people are looking for sustainability, especially when we are looking for DIY products in order to save money other than hiring a contractor. What do we mean by sustainability?  Well, let’s start by defining sustainability . Sustainability is the ability to be sustained, supported, upheld, or confirmed.  To explain it from the perspective of environmental science, not being harmful to the environment or depleting natural resources, and thereby supporting long-term ecological balance. Many times we shop at big box outlets searching for something we need for our small repair.  After jumping into the car, driving to the store, shopping for what we need, to do our repair, jump back into the car, prepping our DIY job, while we get ourselves worked up and excited to do the job ourselves to save money and brag, we are soon disappointed that the product didn’t hold up to their promise.  The product was not sustainable....

Exterior Siding: Out Dated And Not Cost Efficient

Image
It seems as though every other house or commercial building in the City of Toronto is doing a renovation.   Many of the buildings in our city are either very old or run down not to mention building materials in north America are behind its time compared to Europe.   Todays contractors need to be more informed in order to advise or suggest what’s new or what a better alternative for their renovation is.   Educating our customers and offering better alternatives in order that the customer has an option when it comes to picking their building materials, should be first priority.   People want things to last or be more efficient.   The consumer needs to become more knowledgeable when hiring a contractor.   A good contractor needs to educate the consumer and help them to decide what product or building material is right for them.   Contractors spend a lot of time in retail outlets that sell building materials and they see product all the time. ...

A New Construction Material Finds Its Way To Canada, Cork Spray!

Image
Cork Spray? What is it?  Cork spray is a thermal barrier which is sprayed or toweled to any surface of a building, inside or outside.   The cork is harvested every nine years.  After the bark has been treated it is sent out to produce cork bottle tops.  The residual or left over cork is ground into little granules and mixed with a water based resin ready to sprayed or toweled onto any surface. The cork has the thermal conductivity equivalent to wool.  When sprayed onto a surface it will not crack or peel.  It repels water and is mold resistant.  When it is sprayed it has the same look as stucco.  When it is toweled, it has a smooth finish. Cork has been a favorite in the construction industry.  We see it today in cork floors, cork wall paper; it is used as a sound barrier etc.  Now we can apply it as a spray. Cork spray is environment friendly and it is not harmful in any way. It is also termed as the greenest insulation mate...

Thermal Conductivity: Why is it the most important rating when it come to home renovation?

Image
What is Thermal Conductivity? While searching the web I found many interpretation of this but, all explained it scientific terms making it so confusing.  To keep it simple I will explain it in simple terms.  Here it goes! Thermal conductivity is heat that transfers through material at a slow rate for example: When entering a room that has been closed for a while with no windows or doors open it won’t take long for the room to reach thermal equilibrium or equal temperature, meaning all surfaces are the same temperature. Let’s imagine the room is carpeted on one half and tiled on the other half.  Stepping from the carpet to the tile would seem as though the tile is colder but, they are exactly the same temperature.    It’s the heat from your feet that transfer the warmth to the cold tile floor.  If standing on the tile long enough, your feet will reach equilibrium with the tile and both will be the same temperature.  The heat from your ...

Have you considered the use of cork, as a material, to help save you money?  Yes, cork is being recognized as new avenue, in the construction industry.  At present we see its uses on flooring, panels, décor and fashion accessories such as, shoes, hand bags, clothing etc.  Cork is used as an insulator and can help with lowering your utility cost and save you money, as much as, 18% - 50% on your utility bills. Cork In Europe cork is used in the construction industry.  It is applied to many surfaces and looks like stucco.  It can be trowel on, or sprayed on, depending on the desired finish.  It is thermal, meaning, the rate at which heat passes through a specified material. These ...
